Winter Haiku poem

Winter icy cold 

Skis sliding down snow-mountains 

People by the fire

When I woke up the sun was shining the air was cold and I felt so excited  for swimming sports to begin.

When It was my race in the medium size pool for the ten year olds freestyle race, I came 3rd place and I had to go and tell  Mrs Curbell. Then the backstroke was on for the ten year olds, the people I was racing were Richard, Alex and Cameron. Cameron Came 1st, I came 2nd, Richard came 3rd and Alex came 4th.

Then the relays were on the first relay was the ball race. The racers were floating on their backs to the end of the pool and then they gave the ball to the other person and swam back again. They did this twice. The crowd were cheering loudly for their houses. St Anne came 1st and St Francis came 2nd.

Then the year 7&8 vs the parents and the parents won the race. I was yelling loudly “Go Mr Keogh!!!” When the parents won, I said to one of the year 8’s “Good try, better luck next time!”

I had a great day and it was so awesome.

Rock This Party

Kate showed us some really cool dance moves that I've never done before. The funny part was when we did the sprinkler. It was awesome. I had lots of fun.

Pictures in the Mind

I have been practising using words in my writing that give readers pictures in their minds.

Today, our school did Athletics.

We went to the big green courts to get ready. There was a Blue House, Green House, Red House and a Yellow House.

The first event was Vortex. The vortex was shaped like a rugby ball. At the end of it, was a very long tail. The vortex was 33 cm long and very light. When I threw it, it looked like a dart going to the bullseye.

Kapa Haka Night

Last night, the school went to the hall to do our performance in front of our families and parents. 
I watched my sister perform their class item and, in their last song, my sister was the leader for it. 
Next, it was Room 4’s turn. The first song was called Haere Mai and the second was E Aue. When I was on stage, I felt as nervous as a bug getting squished, but I still got through it without getting stage fright. 
Finally, at the end, Mr Keogh said a speech for all of us and it was fun.

You have written a great simile in your recount - as nervous as a bug getting squished - that is very creative. I bet you enjoyed thinking that one up.
Your writing shows how proud you are of your sister and the way she led the Room 5 group.

Add some more details to each paragraph - 
- In paragraph 2, add information like what they sang and how they sang. 
- In paragraph 3, tell the readers how you and your classmates performed. Help your readers to see you and your classmates on the stage performing - describe for them how you were in lines and what you were wearing, and what you did with your feet and hands, and what it looked like when you were performing E Papa Waiari. 
- Add paragraph 4, when you tell your readers about the Kapa Haka group performance.

Athletics Day

On Tuesday, the school went on the field to do athletics.

First, the school students said their house chants. After that, they marched around the field while saying their chants.

Next, the Year 5 went to discus. All of us had one practice shot so we knew what to do. If we didn’t know what to do, we just had a go at it.

Next, the 9 year olds went to vortex. The vortex glided through the air like a rocket. When it landed, it looked like an eagle catching its prey.

Finally, we ran the 100m sprint. The A team had to sit to the side while the B team was racing. The people I was racing were Dre, Rory and Flynn, and I was first.

I thought that the events were fun and I was amazed that I did so well.

It is important to reus an rugby sock and make it out of a puppet.

My Wonderful Mother

My mother is wonderful because she buys me sushi. When mum buys me sushi, I get my favourite one which is salmon sushi.

My mother is wonderful because she makes delicious cookies, cakes, dinners and lunches. After school, she helps me with my homework and tells me to do all my homework like spelling and maths, and she listens to me read.  When I’m doing my maths, she writes them down for me.

One time, I dared my Mum to ride on a 4-wheeler motorbike. She came down a ramp with her eyes closed. She made me laugh because she was so scared.

I love my Mum when she tucks me into bed and, when I’m sick, she lets me play on the PS3.

When my dad pranks me, everytime he throws a water balloon at my back when I’m not looking. 

When I’m stuck with my homework, Dad comes and helps me.
